Investigation of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-splittings in semiconductor quantum wells

The generation, manipulation and detection of spin polarized electrons in low dimen- sional semiconductors are at the heart of spintronics. A versatile tool to achieve these goals provides spin-orbit coupling yielding Rashba and Dresselhaus band spin-splitting in k-space. The project is directed toward the investigation of the spin-orbit splitting in various III-V-compound material based 2D structures applying spin photocurrents. Spin- galvanic and circular photogalvanic eects will be used to obtain the ratio of Rashba and Dresselhaus parameters and investigate its behaviour under variation of carrier density, temperature, doping position and external gate voltage in various materials. We emphasize that our measurements should give the necessary feedback for technologists and allow us to grow structures with equal Rashba and Dresselhaus spin splittings or perfectly symmetric structures with zero Rashba constant which are of particular interest for realization of spin transport based devices.
